Details

This is the new vintage of La Caña Navia, one of Jorge Ordóñez's most exquisite creations.

Produced by Bodega La Cana, this Spanish white wine is made from Galicia's queen white variety: Albariño.

The organically grown grapes come from 2 estates 1 hectare each, planted between 1970 and 1978 in high-acidic soils composed of sand and limestone. The vines are located in the Salnés valley, the heartland of the Albariño grape in Rias Baixas.

Manually harvested and selected both at the vineyard and in the cellar, the must was fermented in 500 and 600-litre French oak barrels, where the wine was also aged for 12 months on its lees.

After its bottling, La Caña Navia 2017 was further aged in the bottle for 12 months before its commercial release.

We suggest that you aerate this white wine from Rías Baixas 30 minutes before drinking.

Appearance

The Spanish white wine La Caña Navia has a bright, clean, straw yellow colour with some steely tinges.

Nose

Displaying a well-balanced complexity, this varietal Albariño shows notes of ripe white fruit, notably pears, dried apricots, sweet spices and some touches of liquorice. This white wine aged in oak is nuanced by some delicate notes of cinnamon and fennel, a background of aromatic herbs and a mineral core.

Palate

A creamy and savoury white wine from Bodega La Cana, the notes of tropical fruit and citrus harmonize with some remembrances of vanilla and balsam. Well defined, with plenty of detail and a lush texture. This white wine by Jorge Ordóñez has a crisp, refreshing acidity and long, persistent finish with a salty touch.

Our personal opinion

Age-worthy and really complex, La Caña Navia 2017 is superbly well-crafted.

I have a very fond memory of an earlier vintage of this wine, the evolution of which can only be qualified as gobsmacking. One of the best Albariños around for my money.

This white wine has an amazing ageing potential. I still have some bottles of 2010 and they haven't even reached its summit yet!! This is a baby with a great future.

What an excellent wine this is! I shared it with friends, and each of us found something different in it. Herbs, lemonds, almonds, fennel... Crisp and zesty. Everything is in the right place here.
