Product Description

Belonging to the Singularitats d'Orto (Singularities) collection, La Carrerada is a Spanish red wine produced by the Orto Vins winery, run by the prestigious winemaker Joan Asens.

This remarkable wine is a single varietal Samsó (a.k.a Carignan) coming from a 0.74-hectare estate planted between 1936 and 1956 at the heart of the DO Montsant. The vineyard belongs to Mr. Josep Maria Jové.

Traditionally vinified, the wine was aged for 12 months in French oak barrels.

A scarce, precious red wine from Montsant with a ridiculously low production of 750 bottles, it has a nice age-worthy potential.

Properly stored, La Carrerada 2013 will evolve in the bottle for a period of 5-7 years.

Decant 1 hour before drinking.

Additional Information
Additional Information

The red wine La Carrerada has a very bright, clean, high cherry-coloured robe with a garnet rim.

Subtle and nuanced, this red wine from Montsant suggests some complex notes of cherries and wild strawberries, alongside some hints of candied fruit, raw cocoa, liquorice, tobacco and spices. This Samsó also shows an intriguing mineral background.

Expressive and well-balanced, this red wine by Orto Vins is crisp and lively, with amazing tension but no stifness whatsoever. Deep and complex, with firm tannins and a superb acidity, this is all about terroir and a minerality which combines hints of chalk and liquorice. Very persistent, this Carignan red wine finishes with an uplifting, sensual note.

Our personal opinion

A very serious wine, and almost impossible to find, La Carrerada 2013 is a gem from Montsant.

Very inspiring wine, almost playful in its show-and-hide nature. Kudos to the winemaker!!

carinena buff
I am a carinena buff, and I am particularly fond of Priorat carinena. I decided to give this highe-end Car. a try and I was not disappointed. This is a wine of great purity and subtlety.

for me
Winemaker Joan Asens has scored a big hit with this pure carinena. It is as deep as those from Priorat but fresher and leaner. Super pure and expressive.
