Red Wine La Florens 2019
Availability: In stock
This is the new vintage of La Florens, a confidential wine from Josep Grau Viticultor which enjoys a considerable reputation among those in the know.
A varietal Grenache, this Spanish red wine from DO Montsant is made from vines over 100 years old.
The vineyards have clay-limestone soils, and they are farmed following the guidelines of organic agriculture.
After a meticulous harvest, this red wine from Montsant was fermented using only indigenous yeasts. Then the wine was aged for 14 months.
Interestingly, both the vinification and the ageing process of La Florens 2019 were carried out in 2,000-litre Stockinger wooden vats from Austria. That was done to preserve the exceptional quality of the fruit and to enhance terroir expression.
Decant this Crianza red wine 1 hour before drinking.
Production around 5,000 bottles.
Appearance | The red wine La Florens is mediun purple with some violet glints. |

Nose | This enticing old-vines Grenache exhibits some remarkably pure aromas of black fruit, Amarena cherries, scrubland and Mediterranean herbs, with hints of flowers and pencil lead over a mineral background. Definitely terroir-oriented. |
Palate | Freshness and precision are the key features of this wine from Josep Grau Viticultor. Pristine notes of wild berries, intense mineral undertones, remembrances of blue flowers and lavender and some balsamic and metallic hints. Lively tannins and a long, complex finish. |
Our personal opinion | Fresh, site-specific and refined, La Florens 2019 goes far beyond the cliché of what a Mediterranean wine is supposed to be. |
