Produced by Celler Cal Bessó, La Prunera de Cal Bessó is, like Lo Cirerer, the other Spanish red wine of the winery, an homage to the family ancestors, who worked as fruit sellers in Barcelona and is neighouring villages (La Prunera means plum tree).
The wine is a blend of Hairy Grenache (Garnatxa Peluda), sourced from "Les Rotes", an over 80-year-old vineyard, and Samsó (Carignan), coming from 15 to 70-year-old vines.
The red wine La Prunera de Cal Bessó is deep ruby with some violet and purple reflections.
Impressively mineral, this blend of Hairy Grenache and Samsó suggests lively blackcurrants, cassis and black cherries, with hints of rosemary, lavender and thyme and subtle creamy toastiness with some floral notes.
Powerful, but not overdone, this wine from Celler Cal Bessó has good focus and phenomenal freshness. Layered and flavourful, with succulent black fruit, a hint of bitter cocoa and Mediterranean garrigue. Finish is very long, with a metallic-mineral sensation and a spicy remembrance.
