Details

A varietal Tempranillo, La Vicalanda Reserva is produced by Bodegas Bilbaínas, a household name from La Rioja.

The grapes are sourced from three of the winery's best vineyards, planted with the traditional caldero system from La Rioja. Farmed following environmentally sustainable agricultural techniques, the hand-tended vines are 35 years old on average.

The grapes were manually harvested and selected on site and in the cellar. This Spanish red wine was macerated and fermented in stainless steel tansk for a period of 3 weeks under controlled temperature.

After that, this reserva red wine was transferred into 50% new French oak barrels, where it went through malolactic fermentation and was aged for a period of 14 months.

Finally, La Vicalanda Reserva 2015 was bottled and aged for a further before its commercial release.

Do aerate this Rioja reserva at least 40 minutes before drinking.

Pair with hearty meat dishes, cured cheeses and cold cuts.

Appearance

The red wine La Vicalanda Reserva is medium purple with a reddish and ruby rim.

Nose

Nuanced and elegant, this varietal Tempranillo is an ode to traditional Rioja. Mulberries and bilberries, with hints of cardamom, clove, vanilla and cinnamon, a smokey and toasted note and some balsamic remembrances.

Palate

Smooth, meaty and fresh, this wine from Bodegas Bilbaínas has steely acidity, silky tannins and a very pleasant mouthfeel. Fruit-forward and flavourful, the wine has a long finish with some balsamic and toasted remembrances.

Our personal opinion

A wine with just the right amount of everything, La Vicalanda Reserva 2015 is an awfully nice Rioja.
