Details

A surprising Spanish red wine from the DO Monterrei, Ladairo Barrica is crafted by Bodegas Ladairo.

It is made from a blend of Mencía, Araúxa (a local clone of Tempranillo) and Merenzao.

The grapes were harvested by hand and separately vinified. After being macerated and fermented, the wine was blended and transferred into French, American and Hungarian oak barrels.

There, Ladairo Barrica 2016 completed malolactic fermentation and was aged for 8 months.

Decant this red wine from Galicia 30 minutes before drinking.

Drink now to 2023.

Appearance

The red wine Ladairo Barrica has a bright, medium-high cherry-coloured robe.

Nose

This Spanish red wine from Monterrei is complex and suggestive on the nose. Remembrances of cocoa, smoke and toast that slowly evolve into aromas of red berries, some floral nuances, sweet spices and aromas of menthol, liquorice and withered leaves.

Palate

Displaying plenty of local character, this red wine by Bodegas Ladairo is smooth and silky. Notes of jammy black fruit, pomegranate, violets and orange rind. Lively acidity, mild tannins and long, mineral finish.

Our personal opinion

Galician red wines have a truly distinctive, sort of Atlantic personality. Ladairo Barrica 2016 perfectly showcases this quality.

Commanding red wine, with good flesh and an Atlantic flair. Notes of herbs and blood orange, an iron note... Great! Review by Franz Carlson (Posted on 02/04/2019)
