Product Description

Produced in Terra Alta, southern Catalonia, Lafou El Sender is made from an interesting blend of Grenache, Syrah and the indigenous, long-forgotten, gentle Morenillo.

Increasingly used by winemakers, Morenillo is a grape that produces remarkably fresh, delicate wines. That's always a treasurable quality, but even more so in Terra Alta, where summers are agonizingly hot.

Harvested by hand, the grapes of this Spanish red wine were separately vinified in stainless steel tanks.

Destemmed and gently crushed, after the completion of alcoholic fermentation Lafou El Sender 2017 was aged for 6 months in 80% French and 20% Central European oak barrels 1 to 4 years of age.

Drink this red wine from Terra Alta produced by the LaFou winery from now until 2022.

Additional Information
Additional Information

The wine Lafou El Sender has a clean, bright, dark cherry colour with a reddish rim.

Unconventionally elegant, El Sender by Lafou Celler shows fresh and delicate nuances of red and black fruit, alongside notes of balsam, menthol, dried flowers and lavender. Quite original.

Savoury and fresh, with focus and tension. This red wine by Celler Lafou has an excellent balance, with a very good acidity and some gentle tannins. Besides the red fruit, there are suggestions of flowers, pomegranate and cocoa. Long, fruity finish.

Our personal opinion

Very well crafted, with a judiciously restrained use of wood, the little-known Lafou El Sender 2017 has a distinctive character and great drinkability.

Incredible wine for the price. Full-bodied but also very fresh -is it the Morenillo? Very good with meat.
