White Wine Lapola 2019
Availability: In stock
Produced in DO Ribeira Sacra, a region famous for its characterful red wines, Lapola is a very interesting Spanish white wine produced by Dominio do Bibei.
A blend of the indigenous varieties Godello (80%), Albariño (15%) and Doña Blanca (5%), the grapes come from young and centenary vines planted in plots with different sun exposures. The vineyards are located at altitudes between 400 and 750 metres above sea level.
Manually harvested in little, 10-kilogram boxes, the grapes were selected at the vineyard and in the cellar. Then 60% of the must was fermented in used oak barrels and egg-shaped concrete tanks, and 40% fermented in 600-litre oak vats.
After 15 days in contact with the lees, and without undergoing malolactic fermentation, 85% of this white wine from Ribeira Sacra was aged for 11 months in French, Austrian and German oak barrels, while the rest was aged in the concrete tanks. Finally, Lapola 2019 was further aged for 18 months in the bottle.
This blended Galician white wine was not fined before bottling.
Decant or aerate 30 minutes before drinking.
Appearance | The white wine Lapola is medium yellow with some greyish tinges and some golden glints. |
---|---|
Nose | Intriguing and complex, this blend of Godello, Albariño and Doña Blanca shows an admirable aromatic balance. White flowers, yellow fruit, delicate toasted notes, touches of sweet spices, notions of wet earth, bitter herbs and a mineral, flint-like background. |
Palate | Rich notes of white fruit and citrus, nuanced by enticing notions of honey, baked apples, wormwood, aromatic herbs, and wet leaves. There is an underlying layer of toast, and some salty touches and spices. This wine from Dominio do Bibei has a long, slightly bitter finish. |
Our personal opinion | A confidential, terroir-oriented wine with real potential for improvement, Lapola 2019 proves that Ribeira Sacra is a land of great white wines too. |
