Details

Produced by the Viñedos del Jalón winery, Las Pizarras is made from over 60-year-old Grenache grapevines.

They are planted in slate and gravel soils at an altitude over 600 metres, in an area within DO Calatayud.

Selected on site and in the cellar, the grapes were cold-soaked and fermented in stainless steel tanks. After that, this Spanish red wine was transferred into in 2nd year French oak barrels, where it completed malolactic fermentation and was aged for just one month, so as to preserve the terroir imprint of this old-vines Grenache.

We suggest that you aerate Las Pizarras 2018 15-30 minutes before drinking

Appearance

The red wine Las Pizarras is medium purple with a garnet rim.

Nose

This varietal Grenache has an enticing nose. Loads of cherries and raspberries, with some balsamic nuances, notes of exotic spices, dim mineral undertones and some floral touches.

Palate

Thanks to the unobtrusive ageing, this wine from Bodegas y Viñedos de Jalón conveys the rugged Aragón terroir in a transparent way. Flavours of red berries with a deep mineral core, mild tannins, excellent acidity, and a long finish.

Our personal opinion

Utterly enjoyable, Las Pizarras 2018 is a rather interesting Grenache from Aragón.

Value
This Garnacha born in slate soils feels super authentic, intense and deep. Minerality is very present and it gives the wine a special touch.
