Product Description

The 2016 vintage of Les Sorts Vinyes Velles is, like the previous one, made from a blend of old-vines Samsó -Carignan- (85%) and Grenache (15%).

Meticulously harvested, the grapes coming from the old vines were vinified in stainless steel tanks.

Then this Spanish red wine from the DO Montsant underwent malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels.

After that, this wine from Celler Masroig was aged for 17 months in those same barrels. Finally, Les Sorts Vinyes Velles 2016 was aged for a further 24 months in the cellar before its release.

Decant this red wine from Montsant at least 1 hour before drinking.

Additional Information
Additional Information

The red wine Les Sorts Vinyes Velles has an intense, medium-high cherry-coloured robe with a purple rim.

This profound red wine from Montsant suggests aromas of black fruit, with nuances of toast, Mediterranean garrigue, spices and cocoa. In the background, this blend of Carignan and Grenache insinuates a note of wild berries and balsam over a thriving, ever-pulsating mineral beat.

Gentler than one might imagine, with a distinctive freshness and a crisp, uplifting acidity, this red wine from Celler Masroig combines elegance and local character in a truly successful way. Intimations of red and black fruit, nuanced by suggestions of bitter chocolate, resin, aromatic herbs, dry earth and some mineral remembrances. Crunchy tannins and long finish.

Our personal opinion

An amazing value, Les Sorts Vinyes Velles 2016 will pair extremely well with meats such as grilled lamb chops and a roast suckling pig.

Yes, Montsant IS the real thing. This was chosen Official Wine of the region, and it is not easy to understand why. It is a beautifully made wine, tremendously expressive, age-worthy and completely unpretentious. I read somewhere that 2013 was a superb vintage, so there you have it.
