Product Description
Details

The flagship product of the Celler Pascona winery, Lo Pare de Pascona is an uncompromisingly terroir-oriented wine produced in the DO Montsant.

A blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, this Spanish red wine is produced from the oldest vines of the winery. They are planted in rugged slate soils, similar to those of the neighbouring Priorat.

After a careful vinificacion carried out following minimal intervention procedures, this Montsant red wine was aged for 16 months in new French oak barrels.

Properly stored, Lo Pare de Pascona 2016 will improve in the bottle for a minimum of 6 years.

Decant a minimum of 1 hour before drinking.

Very limited production. Only 1,000 bottles.

Appearance

The red wine Lo Pare de Pascona has an opaque, bright, high red-coloured robe with a garnet rim.

Nose

A truly enticing, amazingly deep nose this blend of Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon has. Blackberry jam, red berries, spices, blue flowers, some vegetable notions, dim toasted and balsamic nuances, and remembrances of mineral, earth and smoke.

Palate

Bold, information-rich and complex, this reserve red wine by Celler Pascona is still a little tight. The wine has lots of room for growth, showing enticing notions of terroir, wild berries, Mediterranean undergrowth, lavender, flowers and smoke. First-class acidity and some ripe tannins and very long, complex finish.

Our personal opinion

Serious and complex already, the best years of Lo Pare de Pascona 2016 lie ahead in the future.

Produced by quite a low-profile winery, I think this ranks high among the top Montsant reds.
