Produced by Raúl Pérez, one of Spain's most prestigious winemakers, Los Arrotos del Pendón is a very interesting Spanish red wine.
It is made solely from Prieto Picudo, a red variety indigenous to the region of Castilla y León. Earthy, aromatic and with a high tannic content, after some years in the bottle it produces quite appealing wines.
The grapes come from a single, 2-hectare vineyard planted with over 100-year-old vines at an altitude over 900 metres in the village of Pajares de Otero, León.
Harvested by hand, the non-destemmed grape bunches were macerated for 2 months with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks. After that, Los Arrotos del Pendón 2018 was aged for 24 months in used French oak barrels.

Intens and bright, Los Arrotos del Pendón is cherry red with a garnet rim.
Very original, this varietal Prieto Picudo conveys aromas of cassis, violets and blackberries, with some meaty and smokey remembrances and some mineral and earthy hints.
Ripe, concentrated and terroir-bound, this wine of Raúl Pérez is invigorating, and it conveys a sort of noble rusticity that is quite uncommon in today's generally over-polished wines. Very long finish, with remembrances of blue flowers, dry earth and black fruit.
