Louis Roederer Cristal 2006
Louis Roederer Cristal is a legendary Champagne made from a blend of Grand Cru grapes grown in the Reims Mountain, the Marne Valley and the Côte des Blancs.
20% of the wine was vinified in wooden vats, and the rest in stainless steel tanks.
Secondary fermentation took place in the bottle, as well as the 5-year ageing period. After that, the wine was disgorged and aged for a further 8 months in the cellar.
Luis Roederer Cristal, by Louis Roederer, is only made in exceptional vintages and was first produced in 1876 for Alexander II, tsar of Russia.
History has it that, by request of the autocratic monarch, the Maison Roederer provided a transparent, flat-bottomed bottle to ensure that neither poison nor an explosive artifact could be hidden either inside or outside it.
Clean, translucent, bright straw-yellow colour with some amber tinges.
Aromas of citrus rind, candied fruit, white flowers, pastry, butter and dry fruit, along with notes of ripe white fruit, peaches, passion fruit and watermelon.
Marvelously round, dreamy and elegant. Scintillating, perfectly-integrated bubbles, a caressing, silky body and a perfect acidity. Medium-long finish with remembrances of flowers, fruit and toast.
