Red Wine Maduresa 2020
Availability: In stock
The main ambition of Pablo Calatayud, head winemaker of Celler del Roure, is to produce wines that faithfully express the Mediterranean terroir of an area called "Terres dels Alforins", in the heart of DO Valencia.
The 2020 vintage of this Spanish red wine is made from an exciting blend of local varieties; namely, 80% Monastrell, 10% Carignan and 10% Mandó. This combination has resulted in a terroir-bound, compelling Crianza red wine.
Manually harvested, the grapes were partially destemmed, cold-soaked and fermented in stainless steel tanks. Afterwards Maduresa 2020 was transferred into new and used French oak barrels, where it underwent malolactic fermentation and was aged for 9 months.
Decant this organic red wine a minimum of 40 minutes before drinking.
Appearance | The red wine Maduresa is medium violet with a purple rim. |
---|---|
Nose | This blend of Monastrell, Carignan and Mandó opens somewhat tight, and it needs time to unfurl. Intoxicating aromas of violets, blueberries and cocoa, nuanced by Mediterranean herbs, lavender, a spicy note and some mineral remembrances. |
Palate | The palate shows that this wine of Celler del Roure is engaging and information-rich, with a solid structure and a superb acidity. This organic red wine is in the process of assembling all its parts. Nicely textured and deep, with a long finish with remembrances of flowers, balsam and red berries. |
Our personal opinion | As far as we know, Maduresa 2020 by first-class winemaker Pablo Calatayud is made from a blend which has no precedent in Spain. We definitely need more wines like this one. |
