Red Wine Maimó 2018
Availability: In stock
The varietal Grenache Maimó is a single vineyard Spanish red wine produced from organically grown vines located in Serra d'Almos, south of the DO Montsant.
The 35 to 40-year-old plants are planted in clayey soils and have very low yields - only 3,000-4,000 kilograms per hectare.
Produced by the intellectually inquisitive Josep Grau Viticultor, this red wine from Montsant was meticulously vinified following minimal intervention techniques.
After a triple selection process, the grapes were fermented in truncated cone-shaped vats, and then aged for 14 months in a 2,000-litre Stockinger Austrian oak vat.
Finally, Maimó 2017 was not clarified or filtered before being bottled.
Decant 1 hour before drinking.
Only 3,000 bottles produced.
Appearance | The red wine Maimó has an intense ruby colour. This red wine from Montsant has a medium-high robe, clean and bright. |

Nose | This exquisite Grenache from Montsant is nuanced and intriguing. Jammy red fruit, some intimations of red and blue flowers, an eco of citrus, and tips of aromatic herbs over a thin mineral layer. |
Palate | On the palate, this single vineyard wine from Josep Grau is less fruit-driven than on the nose. The Mediterranean surroundings take prominence: rosemary, tarragon, laurel and many more, combined with dim spicy notes and, finally, remembrances of raspberries and redcurrants. This Maimó Garnatxa is smooth-textured and very gentle, with round tannins and a good acidity. Long, gently mineral finish. |
Our personal opinion | Elegant, sort of understated, even a bit elusive, Maimó 2017 is an uncommon, highly interesting red wine from Montsant. |
