Availability: In stock
A varietal Tempranillo Spanish red wine from Bodegas Félix Callejo, Majuelos de Callejo is produced from vineyards grown in clay-limestone soils and covered with pebble stones, at an altitude around 900 metres above sea level. They are located in Sotillo de la Ribera, a village in the province of Burgos, the very heart of the DO Ribera del Duero.
Picked by hand and selected on site and in the cellar, the grapes were slowly fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks. Then this Ribera del Duero red wine underwent a post-fermentation maceration, and was further transferred into new and 2nd years French oak barrels. There, Majuelos de Callejo 2016 completed malolactic fermentation and was aged for a period of 18 months. The wine was periodically racked during the process.
It is advisable to decant this Crianza red wine at least 40 minutes before drinking.
Appearance | Cherry-coloured, Majuelos de Callejo has a purplish rim with some reddish glints. |

Nose | Elegant and surprisingly deep, this varietal Tempranillo balances some primary aromas of blackberries and blackcurrants with notions of clove, cinnamon and cocoa, together with hints of cocoa, fine leather and dry earth. |
Palate | This wine from Bodegas Félix Callejo has a steely acidity and a rock-solid structure. However, this is not a forbidding wine; on the contrary, it is lively and stimulating. It has a long finish with remembrances of Jamaica pepper, underbrush and fine leather. |
Our personal opinion | An impeccable Ribera, Majuelos de Callejo 2016 is an exhilarating Crianza red wine. |
