Details

A varietal Tempranillo, Malleolus is one of the most appreciated Spanish red wines from bodega Emilio Moro, a household name in DO Ribera del Duero.

It is made from estate-owned vineyards 25 to 75 years of age, located in Pesquera de Duero.

As for the 2018 vintage, it was defined by a very rainy spring that caused an advanced budbreak. Fortunately, an uneventful summer restored the equilibrium of the vegetative cycle. Thus, when harvest time arrived the grapes were fully ripen and in excellent sanitary condition.

Traditionally vinified, this red wine from Ribera del Duero was first macerated for 18 days in stainless steel tanks, after which it went through both alcoholic and malolactic fermentations. Then Malleollus 2018 was transferred into French oak barrels and aged for a period of 18 months.

An impeccable Crianza red wine, it is advisable to decant it 1 hour before drinking.

Pair with meat recipes.

Additional Information
Additional Information
Appearance

The red wine Malleolus is deep cherry with a maroon rim.

Nose

Oak is quite noticeable, but it does not suffocate the wine. We encounter typical Tempranillo aromas of blueberries, blackcurrants and tree bark, with a pinch of herbs, a hint of clove, cardamom and cinnamon, and a deep earthy note.

Palate

Ripe and substantial, this wine from Emilio Moro is spicy, lush and very fresh. Bridled tannins, nice acidity and a long finish with some toasted and balsamic remembrances. A classic Ribera in the best sense of the term.

Our personal opinion

Game dishes will make a perfect match with Malleolus 2018.

great Ribera
Value
Really good Ribera. Despite spending 18 months in barrels the wine does not feel oaky, but fresh and lively.
