This well-known Spanish red wine embodies like few others the very essence of La Rioja.
Among other things, the region is famed for the age-worthy potential of its wines. A quality, by the way, which Marqués de Riscal Reserva, produced by the Marqués de Riscal winery, abundantly possesses.
Made from a traditional Rioja blend, the Tempranillo is the main component, nuanced by a dollop of Graciano. The grapes come from grapevines that have already reached quite a respectable age, as they were planted before the 1970s.
Vinified at a controlled temperature of 26ºC and macerated for 12 days, Marqués de Riscal Reserva 2017 was subsequently aged in American oak barrels for 24 months.
Prior to its commercial release, this Rioja red wine was aged for a further year in the cellar.
The wine Marqués de Riscal Reserva is medium ruby with a garnet-reddish rim.
An absolutely classic Rioja in the best sense of the term, this blend of Tempranillo and Graciano carries lively aromas of ripe black and red fruit, with some delicate toasted nuances, a smokey touch, and hints of vanilla, clove and pepper.
Even better than on the nose, on the palate this reserva red wine shows a dense, finely crafted texture, with some ripe, yummy tannins and a well-balanced acidity. The notes of fruit, balsam and spices mingle toghether harmoniously, and the finish of this wine of Marqués de Riscal is long and evocative.
