This is the new flagship Spanish red wine of Celler Masroig.
A single varietal Carignan, this Crianza red wine is produced from the oldest grapevines of the winery, located in two vineyards within the DO Montsant: Els Romeus, which is close to the Siurana River and has a soil composed mainly of pebble stones, and Mas d'en Nadal, north-oriented and characterized by its clayey soils.
After completing alcoholic fermentation and a long skin maceration, Masroig underwent malolactic fermentation in 2.000-litre French oak vats, where it was also aged for 18 months.
Then this red wine from Montsant was gently filtered, bottled and aged for a further 6 months before its commercial release.
Decant Masroig 2015 a minimum of 1 hour before drinking. Drink until 2027.
Production of only 2,668 numbered bottles.
Awarded a Silver Medal in the Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA) 2018.
Intense and dark, the red wine Masroig has a cherry colour with some garnet tinges.
Elegant and complex, with the trademark depth and elegance of the old Carignan vines. Fruit is ripe and juicy, and there are some notes Mediterranean garrigue, cocoa, vanilla, cinnamon and some dim suggestions of leather an tobacco leaves over a herbal and mineral background.
Bold and palate-coating, with thrust and vitality. Smooth-textured, with focus and excellent definition. Remarkable balance between fruit, spices and minerality. Ripe tannins and super-fresh acidity. This red wine by Celler Masroig has a very long finish with an afertaste of toast, violets and liquorice, nuanced by some superbly expressive earthy and mineral overtones.

Once again, Carignan proves that it conveys like no other grape the terroir of Montsant. Masroig 2015 is an excellent wine which will probably become a great one over the next years.
