Product Description

Born in the northern, windswept Catalan region of L'Empordà, Negre dels Aspres is a Spanish red wine produced by Vines dels Aspres.

Made from a blend of Carignan, Grenache and Syrah, the vineyards, scattered over several plots with different soil compositions, are 10 to 35 years of age.

Harvested by hand and selected both in the vineyard and in the cellar, each grape variety was separately vinified. Carefully destemmed, the wine must was fermented and cold-macerated in stainless steel tanks for about 3 weeks.

After being drawn off, this red wine from Empordà was aged for 4 months and subsequently transferred into Allier French oak barrels, where it completed malolactic fermentation and was aged for 14 months.

Finally, Negre dels Aspres 2016 was clarified with egg whites prior to its bottling, and further aged for some months in the cellar prior to its release.

Production of 8,000 numbered bottles. Decant 1 hour before drinking.

The red wine Negre dels Aspres has a medium-high, cherry-coloured robe with a garnet rim.


Characterful and terroir-oriented, this Empordà red wine smells of ripe black fruit, liquorice and white pepper. There are some mineral and stony remembranes, a lively note of Mediterranean garrigue and aromatic herbs, and some hints of cinnamon, clove, smoke and cocoa.


Delightfully rugged, authentic and intense, this wine by Vinyes dels Aspres is more fruit-driven on the palate, though after a while the Mediterranean herbs and the mineral remembrances take prominence. Its delicately warm character is nicely balanced by a crisp acidity, with some crunchy tannins and a stony and mineral finish.

Our personal opinion

Bold, dramatic and spirited, Negre dels Aspres 2016 manages to combine robustness and freshness. A wine with a great personality indeed.

superb Emporda
Charcoal, chocolate, bouquet garni and cherries. Bone dry, the huge bones and high density is redeemed by a killer acidity. Stupendous wine.
