Product Description
Details

A varietal Tinta de Toro, Numanthia is a prestigious Spanish red wine from DO Toro produced by Bodegas Numanthia.

It is made from  50 to 100-year-old vines, most of them ungrafted, grown in sandy-clay soils at an altitude of 700 metres.

Harvested by hand and meticulously selected, the destemmed grapes were macerated for 4 days before being fermented in stainless steel tanks with the skins. Then the wine went through a cold post-fermentation maceration for a period of 7 days.

After that, this red wine from Toro was transferred into new French oak barrels, where it was aged for 18 months.

During the ageing process, Numanthia 2017 was racked every 4 months. Finally, the wine was bottled and aged for a further 24 months before its commercial release.

In order to enjoy it to the fullest, it is essential to decant this Crianza red wine a minimum of 2 hours before you drink it.

Appearance

The red wine Numanthia is deep purple with a reddish and violet rim.

Nose

Extremely complex, and considerably tight at the beginning, this old-vines Tinta de Toro opens with notes of black fruit, some lactic touches and remembrances of dried flowers, slowly evolving into remembrances of balsam, cedar, toast, tobacco, fine leather, underbush, dry earth and smoke.

Palate

Wow! Bold and muscular, this red wine from Bodega Numanthia also shows an impressive finesse and an extremely precise profile. Liquor-infused fruit, Eastern spices, undergrowth, eucalyptus, menthol, some smokey and mineral remembrances, and some hints of blue flowers. Exceptional acidity, lively tannins and very long, smokey finish.

Our personal opinion

Full-bodied and bold, but also textured and nuanced, Numanthia 2017 has many good years ahead of it.
