The varietal Godello O Luar do Sil Godello Fermentado en barrica is the flagship Spanish white wine of bodega O Luar do Sil, the new project of the Rodero Villa family -owners of the famed Pago de los Capellanes winery- in the DO Valdeorras.
This high-end Galician white wine was produced solely from the best Godello grapes coming from vineyards planted in granite and slate soils on the banks of the Sil river, an area where grape growing conditions are nothing short of exceptional.
Once in the cellar, the grapes were refrigerated for 12 hours, destemmed and cold-macerated. After that, they were gently pressed and transferred into 500-litre acacia and French oak barrels to complete alcoholic fermentation, a process which lasted 20 days under a strict temperature control.
Subsequently, O Luar do Sil Godello Fermentado en barrica 2016 was aged on its lees in the barrels for 6 months. Finally, the wine was gently clarified, bottled, and aged for a further 3 months prior to its commercial release.
This is one of the best examples of Godello, a first-rate Galician native variety, available on the market.
The white wine O Luar do Sil Godello Fermentado en barrica has an intense golden colour.
Complex and evocative, this varietal Godello smells of green apples and D'Anjou pears, with some tropical nuances and remembrances of flowers and fine lees. There is a dimly mineral, earthy background.
Deep and multilayered, this wine of Bodega O Luar do Sil has a remarkable balance and an excellent definition. Ripe white fruit, with some hints of herbs and flowers, a creamy note and a mineral tip. Long finish with a lingering aftertaste of fruit and spices.
