The new vintage of this rare and confidential Spanish white wine is made from a blend of Viognier and White Grenache, complemented with a touch of Pedro Ximénez.

Produced by the Marco Abella winery, Òlbia from the DOQ Priorat is made from vines grown in slate soils and farmed following the guidelines of biodynamic agriculture.

The grapes were harvested by hand and cold-macerated. Alcoholic fermentation of this white wine from Priorat was carried out in French oak barrels, where the wine was also aged for 6 months and drawn-off three times.

Following the biodynamic calendar, Òlbia 2016 was bottled in a fruit day.

Production is ridiculously limited. Less than 1,000 bottles.

Decant 1 hour before drinking. Drink through 2024.

The white wine Òlbia has a very bright, clean straw colour with some golden tinges.


Some truly evocative mineral notions, kaleidoscopic and ever-evolving, define the nose of this white wine aged in oak. The fruit is also prominent, bright and extremely pure. Ripe pears, apples and white flowers, with hints of toast, smoke, spices and aromatic herbs.


Palate-coating and lush, but with the trademark Priorat acidity and freshness, Òlbia by Marco Abella shows a great balance between fruit and oak. Toast, white fruit, citrus, honey, royal jelly, rosemary, smoke and mineral. Excellent acidity, great focus, and long, enchantingly mineral finish.

Our personal opinion

Rewardingly complex and age-worthy, Òlbia 2016 is an "under the radar" Priorat white wine that truly deserves the attention of the serious drinker.

Similar to southern Rhône whites. The exciting minerality sets it apart, however. It stil has some baby fat, but I think it will shake it in 2-3 years, becoming a real palate killer.

olbia abella
Creamy, big-structured, with a crisp acidity that keeps everything in place. As somebody said, maybe Priorat's future is in its white wines.
