Product Description
Details

A modern-style Rioja, Orben is a single varietal Tempranillo Spanish red wine

Produced by Bodegas Orben, a brand of Grupo Artevino, this Crianza red wine is made from old-vines planted between the years 1945 and 1954. The vineyards grow in sandy soils in the heart of La Rioja Alavesa.

Harvested by hand in mid October, the grapes were meticulously selected, destemmed and fermented in stainless steel tanks.

Malolactic fermentation was carried out in tanks and oak barrels. After that, Orben 2017 was aged for 12 months in new and 2nd year French oak barrels (50/50).

Finally, this Rioja red wine was clarified, filtered and aged for 1 more year in the bottle.

Aerate 1 hour before drinking. 29,676 bottles produced.

Appearance

The red wine Orben has a high, cherry-coloured robe with a garnet rim.

Nose

This Tempranillo from La Rioja evokes aromas of balsam, resin and menthol, which are combined with notes of juicy red fruit, clove and cinnamon. This Crianza red wine has an earthy and mineral background.

Palate

Solid and bold, this red wine from Bodegas Orben has a meaty body sustained by a crisp acidity. Intense notes of red and black fruit, remembrances of balsam, menthol and garrigue and dim toasted and mineral nuances. This red wine from La Rioja Alavesa has some mild tannins and a long, toasted finish.

Our personal opinion

Both powerful and drinkable, Orben 2017 is simply delightful. Be sure to aerate it 1 hour before drinking.

less oak is ok

New-style Rioja. I found this less oaky and more fruit-driven than usual. Cool label. Very good.

very nice wine but I personally don't buy expensive wine as there are many good wine's for half the price. This was a gift of 6 bottles and I am on my first glass of the first bottle. It does pack a punch and will be excellent with red meat. Slante'!
