The Pago de Carraovejas winery originally produced Pago de Carraovejas El Anejón to celebrate its 25th anniversary. Nowadays, this remarkable Spanish red wine is one of the stars of the DO Ribera del Duero.
It is made basically from Tinto Fino (aka Tempranillo), with some strokes of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. All of them come from a single estate planted in 2001 on steep slopes at 900 metres above sea level.
After a meticulous harvest carried out by hand with selection both on site an in the cellar, the grapes of this red wine from Ribera del Duero were fermented in French "Haute Futaie" oak vats with indigenous yeasts. After that, Pago Carraovejas El Anejón 2016 was aged for 12 months in French oak barrels. Clarified with egg whites, it was finally aged for a minimum of 24 months in the bottle prior to its commercial release.
Decant this Crianza red wine a minimum of 1 hour before drinking.
Appearance | The red wine Pago de Carraovejas El Anejón has a bright cherry colour with a garnet rim. |
---|---|
Nose | Intense aromatic complexity, suggestive and entrancing. Beginning with some subtle understated balsamic and underbrush notes, This blend of Tinto Fino, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot soon adds a layer of juicy black fruit, nuanced by delicate notes of blue flowers, notes of bitter cocoa and Havanna cigars, and some deep mineral undertones. |
Palate | The wine enters boldly onto the palate, and its initially warm character is soon counterbalanced by an exceptional, rock-solid acidity. Texture is lush and velvety, and tannins are almost fully integrated. This wine of Pago de Carraovejas has a long, ever-evolving finish with a deeply toasted and mineral aftertaste. |
Our personal opinion | One of the best wines produced in Ribera del Duero, Pago de Carraovejas El Anejón 2016 will provide a memorable drinking experience. |
