A varietal Tempranillo, the prestigious Pago de los Capellanes Reserva is born in some of the best terroirs of Ribera del Duero.
Made from over 80-year-old grapevines that yield a very low amount of fruit per plant, the grapes of this Reserve red wine were harvested at their optimal ripening point, cold-macerated and fermented.
Afterwards, this Spanish red wine by Pago de los Capellanes was aged for 14 months in new French oak barrels. During the process, it was drawn-off every 6 months.
Finally, the wine was aged for a minimum of 18 months before its commercial release. Prior to its bottling, Pago de los Capellanes Reserva 2017 was neither clarified nor filtered.
Decant this red wine from Ribera del Duero a minimum of 1 hour before drinking.

Nose | Really deep and enticing, this Ribera del Duero red wine conveys some juicy aromas of red and black fruit, with some jammy touches, hints of underbush, vanilla, cinnamon and coco, combined with notions of cedar, balsam, liquorice and blue flowers. This Tempranillo has a complex and exuberant nose. |
Palate | Charmingly reticent at first, this reserve red wine by Pago de los Capellanes slowly grows in confidence and becomes a pure delight to the palate. Lush texture, intoxicating spicy and balsamic nuances, succulent fruit, and hints of chocolate, arabica coffee, vanilla, dry earth and undergrowth. Superb acidity, juicy tannins and remarkable integration between wood and fruit. Long, spicy finish which announces a long, promising future. |
Our personal opinion | Elegant, seductive, and less and less imprinted by oak, Pago de Los Capellanes 2017 is a first class wine with a remarkable ageing potential. |
