Details

Produced by the Hermanos Sastre winery, this Spanish red wine is an exceptional single varietal Tempranillo.

A single estate wine, Pago de Santa Cruz is made from low-yielding 70-year-old grapevines planted in clay-limestone soils at an altitude over 800 metres above sea level.

Meticulously harvested, the grapes of this old-vines Tempranillo from Ribera del Duero were first vinified in stainless steel tanks.

After that, this Crianza red wine was aged for 18 months in new American oak barrels. During the process, it was racked four times.

Prior to its release, Pago de Santa Cruz 2017 was aged for a further months in the cellar.

Be sure to decant this Ribera del Duero red wine at least 1 hour before you drink it.

Appearance

The wine Pago de Santa Cruz has a medium-high, bright cherry-coloured robe with a reddish rim.

Nose

This impressive Tinta del País from Ribera del Duero starts with some deep mineral notes that convey a real sense of terroir, enlivened by pristine notions of red berries, some balsamic remembrances, finely integrated wooden touches and a panoply of exotic spices.

Palate

Powerful and well-balanced, this Crianza of Viña Sastre is also detailed and intrincate. First-class fruit, intertwined with remembrances of balsam, spices, flowers, some mineral undertones and the terroir imprint. Ripe tannins and fabulous acidity, with an extremely long finish.

Our personal opinion

A fine specimen from Ribera del Duero, Pago de Santa Cruz 2017 is quite something. Definitely a wine for today, but even more a wine for tomorrow.
