Red Wine Palell 2013
Availability: In stock
A single-estate Spanish red wine with a ridiculously scarce production of less than 1,000 bottles, Palell belongs to the "Singularities" collection of the Orto Vins winery.
Produced by the master winemaker Joan Asens, this red wine from Montsant is indeed a singular one, as it is solely made from Hairy Grenache, a mutation of the well-known Grenache that is indigenous to Catalonia.
Hairy Grenache produces misterious, delightfully introspective wines which differ considerably from those made from Grenache, more fruit-driven and expansive.
This wine is made from grapes coming from a 65-year-old vineyard farmed following organic and biodynamic procedures.
Meticulously harvested and vinified, the grapes were fermented in 500-litre oak vats for a period of 28 days. Malolactic fermentation took place in 3rd and 4th year oak barrels.
Finally, Palell 2013 was aged in those same barrels for 12 months.
Drink over the next 5-7 years.
Appearance | The red wine Palell has a clean, bright, medium cherry-coloured robe with a reddish rim and some purple glints. |
---|---|
Nose | Slippery, kaleidoscopic notes of wild berries, along with flowers, aniseed, juniper, balsam, undergrowth, menthol, and wet earth. This varietal Hairy Grenache from Montsant also suggests some dim mineral undertones and some toasted aromas. |
Palate | Extremely delicate at first, but growing in confidence as it traverses the palate. This red wine by Orto Vins has some lively tannins, a tense acidity and notes of balsam, ripe fruit, spices and flowers underpinned by a wonderful minerality. Long, enticing finish. |
Our personal opinion | Another gem from Les Singularitats d'Orto collection, Palell 2013 is wonderfully sensual. |
