Belonging to the Tierra de León DO, in northern Spain, the wine Pardevalles Gamonal is a single varietal Prieto Picudo, a grape indigenous to the region that produces intense red wines with a great potential for improvement over time.
The grapes come from the 34 hectares owned by the winery in the south of the León province. They are planted in poor, rocky soils in an area with stark temperature contrasts between daytime and nighttime.
Harvested by hand, the grapes of this Spanish red wine were partially destemmed and macerated for 4 days. Alcoholic fermentation took place in truncated cone shaped vats.
After that, Pardevalles Gamonal 2016 was aged in 60% French and 40% American oak barrels for 12 months in an underground cellar over 300 years of age.
Drin this Prieto Picudo by the Pardevalles winery until 2025.
Decant this Crianza red wine 30 minutes before drinking.
The wine Pardevalles Gamonal has a lively cherry colour with a garnet rim.
An intense and expressive red wine from León. Notes of ripe black fruit, some remembrances of flowers and a touch of aromatic herbs. As this Prieto Picudo wine opens, we smell creamy hints of spices, toffee, coffee and toast over a liquorice background.
With an interesting varietal character, this Prieto Picudo by Pardevalles is meaty, gently tannic, fresh and super yummy. Fruit is delicious, and finish is persistent, with an aftertaste of balsam and, again, red fruit.
