Red Wine Peña Caballera 2015
Availability: Out of stock
Peña Caballera 2015 is a single varietal Grenache produced in the Gredos Mountains, a place qualified by several prestigious wine critics as "Spain's greatest discovery since the Priorat boom."
This rare and precious Spanish red wine is made from grapes coming from a single, 1.5-hectare plot composed of granitic soils and located at an altitude of 850 metres above sea level.
The place belongs to the Vinos de Madrid DO. Vines are 50 to 70 years old.
Harvested by hand and meticulously selected, the grapes were cold-macerated prior to fermentation.
Then this Spanish red wine by the Bodega Marañones winery was fermented in open vats using indigenous yeasts. After that, it was aged for 12 months in 4th year French oak barrels.
In order to preserve the wonderful quality of the fruit, the wine was not stabilized, clarified or filtered before its bottling.
Do gently decant this limited-production, single varietal Grenache from Madrid a minimum of 1 hour before drinking.
Drink now until 2023.
Peña Caballera has a lively, bright, medium cherry-coloured robe with a rosy rim.
This Grenache by Bodega Marañones is fresh, complex, sophisticated. Aromas of red berries and rose petals, a touch of lavender and wet earth, and some nuances of balsam, flowers and exotic spices over a mineral background.
Smooth and gentle, showing the elegant character that is earning the Grenache wines from Gredos Mountains (Vinos de Madrid) a growing reputation among wine connoisseurs. Pure, shimmering suggestions of kirsch, raspberry and forest floor, sustained by a layer of mineral and herbal intimations. Exceptionally fresh and linear, with very good acidity and a long, floral and balsamic finish.
