This is the new vintage of Perelada 5 Finques Reserva, formerly known as Perelada 5 Finques.
This Spanish red wine is produced by Castillo de Perelada.
The 6 varieties come from 5 estates - 5 Finques - composed of different kinds of soils. This fact, together with the Mediterranean influence and the cooling efect of the Tramuntana (a harsh northern wind) give the wine an interesting complexity.
The grapes were separately harvested and vinified. Then the wine was aged for 18 months in fine-grain American and French oak barrels.
After that, it was aged for a further 12 months in the bottle.
Aerate Perelada 5 Finques Reserva 2016 from L'Empordà 30 minutes before drinking.
The wine Perelada 5 Finques Reserva has a bright cherry-coloured robe with a violet rim.
This bold reserve red wine from L'Empordà obviously benefits from the richness of the blend. Complex aromas of juicy black and red fruit, combined with dash of exotic spices, some earthy nuances and aromas of menthol and Mediterranean underbrush. We also perceive some mineral remembrances over a deep, smokey and toasted core.
Mouth-filling and savoury, this red wine by Castillo Perelada has a solid structure that sustains flavours of dark fruit, dry earth and Mediterranean herbs. Intense mineral notes, crisp acidity and crunchy tannins. Long finish.

An excellent pairing with hearty dishes, we suggest that, when in Catalonia, you drink Perelada 5 Finques Reserva 2016 with a "Mar i muntanya" (truly exquisite recipes that combine fish or shrimp with meat).
