This is the new vintage of Perelada 5 Finques Reserva, formerly known as Perelada 5 Finques.
Produced by Castillo de Perelada, this Spanish red wine is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache Merlot and Samsó (Carignan).
The 4 varieties come from 5 estates - hence the name 5 Finques - composed of different kinds of soils. This fact, together with the Mediterranean influence and the cooling efect of the Tramuntana (a harsh northern wind) give the wine an interesting complexity.
The grapes were separately harvested and vinified. Then Perelada 5 Finques Reserva 2017 was aged for 16 months in fine-grain American and French oak barrels.
After that, this reserva red wine from L'Empordà was aged for a further months in the bottle.
Aerate 30 minutes before drinking. Pair with hearty dishes.
Appearance | The wine Perelada 5 Finques Reserva is deep ruby with a violet rim. |

Nose | This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Merlot and Samsó certainly benefits from its rich composition. Complex aromas of juicy black and red fruit, combined with dash of exotic spices, some earthy nuances and aromas of menthol and Mediterranean underbrush. We also perceive some mineral remembrances over a deep, smokey and toasted core. |
Palate | Mouth-filling and savoury, this red wine from Castillo Perelada has a solid structure and a steely acidity. Flavours of dark fruit, dry earth and Mediterranean herbs. Intense mineral notes, crunchy tannins and long finish. |
Our personal opinion | If you ever have the chance to visit L'Empordà, in northern Catalonia, we suggest drinking Perelada 5 Finques Reserva 2017 with a "Mar i muntanya" (a series of unlikely, yet truly exquisite recipes that combine fish or shrimp with meat). |
