Details

An accessible, but nevertheless interesting Spanish red wine. That is what Petit Hipperia is.

Produced by Pago de Vallegarcía, every vintage of this wine bears a different label. However, it always features the horse - the emblem of the winery - as the main motif.

Moreover, every vintage of this estate red wine also has a slightly different composition. The 2018 one features Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Syrah.

After a meticulous harvest, the grapes were macerated for 3-4 days and separately vinified in stainless steel tanks with periodic punch-overs and pump-downs.

Subsequently, Petit Hipperia 2018 completed malolactic fermentation in oak barrels.

Finally, this Crianza red wine with the VT Castilla label was aged for 12 months in those same barrels.

18,300 bottles produced.

Appearance

The wine Petit Hipperia has a clean, bright cherry-coloured robe with a garnet rim and some violet tinges.

Nose

This interesting Vino de Pago from Montes de Toledo exhibits some intense aromas of fruit, balsam and toast, underpinned by suggestions of terroir, undergrowth and liquorice.

Palate

Pleasant and mild, with a fresh acidity and some savoury tannins. Black fruit is the dominant note of this wine of Pago Vallegarcía with a dash of spices and balsam and some toasted and earthy remembrances. This red wine from Castilla has a long, complex finish.

Our personal opinion

Ever more nuanced and interesting, Petit Hipperia 2018 of Pago Vallegarcía is an excellent value from Toledo.
