Details

The maverick winemaker  David Sampedro Gil crafts the splendid Phincas Thousand Milks from a blend of grapes coming from two vineyards,  Finca Lali and Finca La Abejera, located in Rioja Alavesa.

The main variety of this Spanish white wine is Viura (aka Macabeo), sorted from vineyards planted in 1910. It is complemented with Malvasía and White Grenache, both planted in 1929.

The harvest of this organic white wine was carried out, as with all of the wines made by David Sampedro – known, incidentally, for being one of La Rioja's new "terroirists" - according to the specifications of the biodynamic calendar.

The grapes were destemmed, gently stomped and spontaneously fermented in tanks. After that, Phincas Thousand Milks 2016 was aged for 11 months in French oak barrels with frequent lees-stirrings.

Aerate this white wine from Rioja at least 30 minutes before drinking.

Pair this Crianza white wine with shrimp, white meat dishes and baked fish recipes.

Appearance

The white wine Phincas Thousand Milks is medium yellow with golden and amber tinges.

Nose

Deeply mineral and remarkably complex, this blend of Viura, White Grenache and Malvasía suggests hints of white fruit, touches of mint and honey, and notes of exotic spices, toasted wood and balsam.

Palate

The ageing on lees has given this wine from Bodegas Bhilar – DSG Vineyards a luscious mouthfeel that, nevertheless, does not prevent the wine from being fresh. Notes of flowers and citrus, with remembrances of spices over a deep, complex mineral background. Intricate and layered, with a great acidity and a very long finish.

Our personal opinion

An age-worthy white wine, the confidential Phincas Thousand Milks 2016 has a truly distinctive personality.

Dear DSG!!

This white wine ought to revolutionize the way Rioja whites are perceived. This is something completely new because it cannot be further from the generic character that almost all Rioja whites, even the very best, display. 5 stars.

A friend gave me this wine as a present. He was super excited about it, but I really didn't know what to expect. Queer name. Unknown producer (for me). Then I opened it, wait about 1 hour and... Wow!! The best white wine I've had in a long time. Deep, multi-layered, fresh. Makes love with your palate and leaves you in awe!
