Pintia 2008 is a red wine produced by Bodegas y Viñedos Pintia, a subsidiary winery of the prestigious Vega Sicilia Group.
This wine is a single varietal Tinta de Toro red made from vines 40 to 60 years old planted in alluvial soils composed of sand and quartzite.
A mutation of Tempranillo with a higher tannin content, Tinta de Toro has been proven to be a grape capable of producing not only robust, overpowering products. In the hands of skilled winemakers, it can also produce surprisingly noble, deep, age-worthy wines.
2008 was very good in the Toro DO. After a mild winter and a rainy spring, summer was fresher than usual. As a result, the grapes ripened slowly and steadily.
Traditionally vinified, the wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks and transferred into oak barrels, where it completed malolactic fermentation and was aged for 12 months in 70% 1st year French, and 30% 1st year American oak barrels.
Prior to its commercial release, Pintia 2008 was aged for a further months in the cellar.
Nice, bright, medium-high cherry-coloured robe with some violet tinges.
Fresh and fragrant, with a delightfully "natural" character. Notes of ripe fruit, aromatic herbs, Eastern spices, and deep mineral undertones.
Big and powerful, but not in the least suffocating. Tense and focused, with a great, refreshing acidity and bold tannins. Black fruit, blue flowers and mineral remembrances combine harmoniously. Long, resounding finish.
