Red Wine Porrera 2019
Availability: In stock
Priorat native winemaker Sal·lustià Àlvarez, head of the Àlvarez Duran winery and also the current president of the DOQ Priorat, presents the new vintage of his wine Porrera.
Taking the Burgundy classification system as a reference, this Spanish red wine would be placed halfway between a Village wine and a Premier Cru. This is what in Priorat is called a "Vi de Vila."
The wine is essentially made from Carignan and Grenache, the two varieties which best represent the region, complemented with 10% Syrah, and 5% of white varieties. All come from vines planted on steep slate slopes.
The grapes were harvested by hand, cherry-picked and meticulously vinified. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks, followed by a long maceration. Gently pressed, the wine was then aged for 20 months in oak barrels. Finally, Porrera 2019 was further aged for 4 months in the bottle before its release onto the market.
It is highly advisable to decant this red wine from Priorat at least 1 hour before drinking.
Pair this Crianza red wine with hearty meat recipes.
Appearance | Intense and bright, Porrera is deep ruby with some violet tinges. |

Nose | This blend of Grenache, Carignan, Syrah and several white varieties has a magnificent nose, full of nuance and intricacy, which only gets better as the wine aerates. Very pure aromas of cranberries and mulberries, subdued notes of spices, licorice and toast, delicate remembrances of Mediterranean garrigue, and a vibrant, enveloping mineral core. |
Palate | Impressive, with a boldness and concentration that never becomes overwhelming. On the contrary, this wine of the Àlvarez Duran winery displays a calm confidence, engaging the drinker in a most interesting conversation. Lively tannins, phenomenal acidity and great precision, with considerable room for growth. Extremely long finish with some mineral and floral remembrances. |
Our personal opinion | Mr. Sal·lustià Àlvarez, winemaker and the current president of DOQ Priorat, has written a love letter to his native town in the form of a wine. That's Porrera 2019. |
