Details

Produced by La Vinyeta in the northern Catalan region of L'Empordà, Puntiapart is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Samsó (Carignan), coming from estate-owned vineyards.

Constantly swept by the Tramuntana, a relentless northern wind, the old vines of this Spanish red wine were harvested by hand, and then the grapes were gently pressed and cold-macerated for some days.

After that, they underwent a traditional vinification and were aged for 12 months in French, American and Hungarian oak barrels.

It is advisable to decant Puntiapart 2017 1 hour before drinking.

Appearance

The red wine Puntiapart has an intense, bright red colour with a garnet rim.

Nose

Beginning with a intensely mineral note, this blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Samsó soon exhibits aromas of of ripe fruit, extremely lively and almost jammy, underpinned by a deep earthy background and some aromas of clove and cinnamon, with hints of flowers and Mediterranean garrigue.

Palate

Fresh and yummy, this Empordà red wine of La Vinyeta has a smooth texture and some mild tannins. Cocoa, violets, some earthy and mineral notions, and notes of balsam and spices. Good acidity and long, complex finish with a suggestion of menthol.

Our personal opinion

Well-defined and elegant, Puntiapart 2017 is an exceptional value from Empordà. Pair this Crianza red wine with cold cuts and roast dishes.

I drink this in the wonderful city of Girona, in a cozy restaurant right in the old Jewish quarter. The drink perfectly matched the romantic setting.

La Vinyeta winery is on the top of my list when speaking of Emporda. This blend works very well, and it will improve over the next 4 years.
