Details

Marketed under the brand name Mas de l’A - La Morera, one of the many wine projects of energetic Catalan winemaker and architect Alfredo Arribas, Quars is a varietal White Grenache wine from DOQ Priorat.

It is made from organically grown vineyards, transitioning to biodynamic farming, composed of clay and quartz soils and situated between the villages of Cornudella and Poboleda, at 500 metres of altitude.

Hand-harvested at the optimal ripening state, the grapes were partially destemmed and gently pressed. This Spanish white wine was then fermented with wild yeasts in concrete diposits and stainless steel tanks.

After that, Quars 2020 was transferred into 500-litre French oak barrels and aged for a period of 10 months. It was bottled unfined and unfiltered.

It is advisable to decant this Crianza white wine some time before drinking.

This varietal white wine from Priorat is subtle and characteristic.

Very limited production.

Nose

This varietal White Grenache is rather sophisticated. Ripe peaches, elderberries, turmeric and cumin, with a mineral spark, some smokey and spicy brushstrokes and a floral hints.

Palate

Lifted and textured, this wine from Mas de l’A of Alfredo Arribas has a tangy acidity and layers of ripe white fruit framed by a hint of spices and a Mediterranean garrigue. Finish is citrusy and creamy, with a deep mineral bite.

Our personal opinion

Alfredo Arribas has done it again. Quars 2021 is an invitation to rethink Priorat.

Arribas has done it again. This is a remarkable white Priorat with no trace of heat or over-extraction.
