The flagship Spanish red wine of the Portal del Montsant winery, Santbru is made principally from Carignan, alongside some Grenache and Syrah.
All of the grapevines grow in sandy-limestone soils at altitudes between 700 and 800 metres above sea level, in an area belonging to the DO Montsant.
Harvested by hand and separately vinified according to its plot of origin, the grapes were fermented in deposits and macerated for a long time.
After that, this red wine from Montsant was aged for 14 months in French oak barrels. Finally, it was further aged in deposits so all the parts could fully come together.
Decant Santbru 2016 1 hour before drinking.
Appearance | The red wine Santbru has a bright, high cherry-coloured robe with a purple rim. |
---|---|
Nose | Complex nuances of black fruit and wild berries, typical of a red wine from Montsant, combined with notes of Eastern spices, toast, Mediterranean undergrowth, cocoa powder, menthol, lavender and dry earth. |
Palate | Crisp and expressive, this red wine by Portal del Montsant has focus and a clear definition. Smooth-bodied with an excellent acidity and velvety tannins. Toast, garrigue, wild berries, some earthy and mineral nuances, remembrances of balsam and citrus and some hints of flowers. Long, complex finish. |
Our personal opinion | Elegant and powerful, Santbru 2016 is a wine which deserves to be widely known and appreciated. |
