Product Description
Details

The 2017 vintage of Santbru is a varietal Carignan. This is the flagship Spanish red wine of Portal del Montsant, a winery which belongs to the new 15Bodegas project.

The grapevines grow in sandy-limestone soils at altitudes between 700 and 800 metres above sea level, scattered over several villages in DO Montsant.

Harvested by hand and separately vinified according to its plot of origin, the grapes were fermented in stainless steel tanks and macerated for a long time.

After that, Santbru 2017 was aged for 14 months in French oak barrels.

Finally, this Crianza red wine was further aged in deposits so all the parts could fully come together.

Decant this red wine from Montsant 1 hour before drinking.

Nose

Aromas of black fruit and bitter cocoa, typical of a varietal Carignan combined with notes of Eastern spices, toast, Mediterranean undergrowth, menthol, lavender and dry earth.

Crisp and expressive, this red wine from bodega Portal del Montsant has focus and a clear definition. Smooth-bodied, with an excellent acidity and velvety tannins. Long, complex finish.

Our personal opinion

Elegant and powerful, Santbru 2017 is a wine which deserves to be widely known and appreciated.

Santbru has, besides the juicy fruit, that-to me-extremely appealing mixture of orange peel and cola which I sometimes find in Montsant reds.

Excellent wine. Texture is subtle, and it has depth and freshness. Very long finish.
