Details

We are happy to present the phenomenal 2018 vintage of Scala Dei Heretge, a one-of-a-kind Carignan red wine produced by bodega Scala Dei, the oldest winery in DOQ Priorat.

This exceptional Spanish red wine comes from over 80-year-old vines planted in three vineyards: Cap la Serra, Parts de l'Ase and La Font, located between La Vilella Alta and Torroja del Priorat.

Picked by hand and meticulously selected, once in the cellar the grapes were partially destemmed and fermented in open concrete diposits for a period of 30 days. Then Scala Dei Heretge 2018 was aged for 16 months in 4,000-litre French oak vats for 16 months.

Finally, this Priorat red wine was aged for a significant period of time in the bottle before its commercial release.

An instant classic, this Crianza red wine is hard to come by. Grab one bottle while you can!

Decant 1 hour before drinking at the very least.

Appearance

The red wine Scala Dei Heretge is deep purple with some bluish and violet reflections.

Nose

This old-vines Carignan has a gripping nose. Ripe wild berries, violets, lavender and bitter cocoa, with some hints of Mediterranean scrub, spices and balsam. There is an imposing, ever-present mineral note permeating everything.

Palate

This wine from bodega Scala Dei is complex and ever-evolving, suggesting wild berries, garrigue, spices, flowers and chinese ink. It conveys a real sense of place, with an amazing freshness and a steely acidity that sustains the wine all the way to a memorable, deeply mineral finish.

Our personal opinion

Others have already stated it and we fully agree: Scala Dei Heretge 2018 is a world-class red wine.

Memorable wine
Value
Mind-blowingly good wine. Super intense and concentrated, but nonetheless in full command of itself until the very end.
