Product Description

This single varietal Verdejo is a Spanish white wine from Rueda made from pre-phylloxera vineyards more than 100 years of age.

The vines of Shaya Habis grow in an extremely harsh terroir in the Segovia meseta, characterized by freezing cold winters and boiling summers.

Production of this old-vines Verdejo was guided by minimal intervention criteria in order not to unmask the remarkable quality of the fruit.

Thus, the free-run must was fermented in 500 and 600 litre new oak barrels, after which it was aged for 8 months to gently smooth its delightfully deep character.

This white wine from Rueda produced by Bodegas y Viñedos Shaya has a nice ageing potential.

Drink Shaya Habis 2017 over the next 8-9 years.

Decant 1 hour before drinking.

Additional Information

The white wine fermented in oak Shaya Habis has a clean, bright, straw-coloured robe with greenish tinges.

Remarkable complexity of this old-vines Verdejo from Rueda, with notes of citrus, ripe pineapple, a panoply of aromatic herbs and some floral remembrances. On the background we perceive some dry earth undertones, smoky hints and a delicate touch of oak.

Bold, big and tremendously fresh, this Verdejo aged in oak by Bodegas y Viñedos Shaya has a nice structure with plenty of detail, suggesting white and yellow fruit, along with some dry mineral notes, hints of wood and some refreshing, bitter undertones. Tremendous acidity and long persistence that leaves traces of citrus, toast and dry earth.

Our personal opinion

An exclusive white wine, Shaya Habis 2017 preserves and honours the heritage of some precious old Verdejo vines.

Warning: decant the wine 1 HOUR minimum. Trust me. Then it will start to sing. However, it will be much better in 3 or 4 years.
