Red Wine Somni 2015
Availability: In stock
The remarkable Somni is winemaker Alfredo Arribas' take on arguably the most widespread trend in the Spanish wine scene. The one that, contrary to what happened a decade ago, favours gentler, fresher, less robust wines.
Produced by Portal del Priorat, this Spanish red wine is made from grapes coming from 14 hectares of vineyards in the process of conversion to certified organic agriculture.
A blend of Syrah and Carignan planted in slopes and terraces, the key feature of this red wine from Priorat is the composition of the soils: a blue and black slate that imparts a distinctively mineral character to the wine.
After a manual harvest, Somni 2015 from Priorat underwent a pre-maceration fermentation, after which the grapes were fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged for 12 months in French oak barrels.
Drink until 2025+.
Decant no less than 2 hous before drinking.
Clean and bright, Somni has an intense cherry colour with a violet rim.
This wine by Alfredo Arribas shows an unmistakably Priorat character, though nuanced by an unexpected, subtle twist. Suggestive aromas of black fruit, violets, cocoa and black olives-almost a note of tapenade-mingled with aromas of liquorice, toast and a deep mineral core.
Full of life and thrust, but not overbearing, this red wine by Portal del Priorat is nicely textured, seductively nocturnal, and gently mineral. The note of Mediterranean garrigue is very present, alongside some hints of dark fruit and nuances of flowers, spices and raw cocoa. Tannins are mild and acitidy is simply stupendous. Long, uplifting finish, full of nuance and mistery.
