Product Description
Details

This Spanish red wine is produced by the Marqués de Griñón winery in Pago Dominio de Valdepusa, a very small Designation of Origin comprising only 42 hectares in the province of Toledo, near Madrid.

A great proponent of international varieties, the marquis of Griñón, owner of the winery, made this Summa Varietalis from a blend composed mainly of Syrah, with tiny amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Unashamedly technical in his approach to winemaking, his winery uses state-of-the-art technology to monitor each and every parameter relating to the soil, the temperature and, particularly, the rain that the grapes receive.

Carefully handpicked, brought to the cellar in small boxes and meticulously destemmed, the grapes underwent a long fermentation-maceration process for almost 5 weeks. Then Summa Varietalis 2012 was put into new and nearly new French oak barrels from Allier, where the wine was aged for 12 months.

This red wine from Pago Dominio de Valdepusa was neither filtered nor clarified before its bottling. Decant 30 minutes before drinking.

Additional Information
Appearance

The red wine Summa Varietalis crafted by the marquis of Griñón has a medium-high cherry robe with garnet tinges.

Nose

We find aromas of red and black fruit -cassis, blueberries and blackberries- over a refreshing, herbal background. This red wine by the Marqués de Griñón winery shows hints of bay leaf, mineral remembrances and some spicy, slightly smokey touches that add complexity to the wine.

Palate

This red wine from Dominio de Valdepusa behaves gentlemanly on the palate. Complex and well-balanced, the wine displays flavours of fruit along with some fresh mineral notes. Everything is on the right place here. Good acidity and a medium-long finish. A wine with an earnest demeanor.

Our personal opinion

Great with meat dishes, Summa Varietalis 2012 is a good wine to drink with friends who like to talk... about wine.

Tries to be frenchier than the French. It does not quite succeed, but the wine is interesting anyhow.
