The remarkable red wine Teixar is made solely from Hairy Grenache, a mutation of the Grenache variety indigenous to Catalonia.
Since 2012, this Spanish red wine from Montsant bears the seal "Vi de Finca Qualificada" (meaning "Certified Estate Wine"), Catalonia's highest quality distinction.
A single estate wine, it is made from over 70-year-old vines planted in a 3-hectare plot farmed following organic and biodynamic practices.
First the grapes were meticulously harvested. Then the wine must was divided in 7 parts, fermented using indigenous yeasts, and separately vinified.
After that, this red wine from Montsant was blended and aged for 14 months in French oak barrels.
Finally, Teixar 2015 was further aged for several months in the bottle prior to its commercial release.

This varietal Hairy Grenache from Vinyes Domènech is truly complex, even kaleidoscopic. First sensations evoke notes of toffe and Tahitian vanilla, after which we perceive notes of lavender, rosemary, wet stones and underbush. As this Vi de Finca Qualificada opens, aromas of damson and cranberries slowly gain prominence, combined with some toasted notes and a dash of blue flowers.
Nerve, elegance and smoothness. This wine from Vinyes Domènech suggests some delicious notes of cranberries and wild strawberries, enticing hints of menthol, resin and pine needles, a resounding minerality and a dash of liquor-infused fruit. Texture is superb, tannins are lively and acidity is very precise. This varietal Garnatxa Peluda has very long finish, with some mineral remembrances and a deep sense of terroir.
