Product Description

This single estate Spanish red wine is one of the three "Vins de Coster" (literally meaning "Slope wines") produced by Terroir al Límit, certainly the most Burgundian of all the wineries working in Priorat.

Rather fittingly, Terroir al Límit Dits del Terra is a single varietal Carignan, the grape variety that, in the view of many connoisseurs, best expresses the rugged, cataclysmic slate soils of the region.

This red wine from Priorat is produced from three little plots located on very steep, south-oriented slopes. The grapevines, over 80 years old, are farmed following the guidelines of biodynamic agriculture.

Harvested by hand, the grapes were meticulously selected, whole bunch fermented with indigenous yeasts, and macerated for a period of 14 days.

After that, Dits del Terra 2016 was aged for 24 months in demi-muids and and 500-litre Austrian oak barrels.

Bear in mind that Carignan is a highly reductive grape. To appreciate this wine in its full glory, you should decant it at least 2 hours before drinking.

Only 4,868 bottles produced.

Additional Information
Additional Information

The red wine Terroir al Límit Dits del Terra has a very bright, clean, medium-high cherry-coloured robe with a violet rim.

Fresh and intense, with an excellent definition and a promising complexity, this old-vines Carignan starts conveying some deep mineral undertones, along with fresh, pristine notions of red berries, cocoa and red flowers. There is a subtle, insinuating background of tree bark, Mediterranean garrigue, menthol and dry earth.

As usual, on the palate this old Carignan shows a seriousness and a depth matched by very few grapes. Exceptionally pure and terroir-oriented, this wine by Terroir al Límit is sinewy, fluid and very precise. There are some earthy remembrances, marvelous notes of wild berries and bitter cocoa, a panoply of aromatic herbs and a focused, razor-sharp character. Long, spellbinding finish with some mineral undertones.

Our personal opinion

Once again, winemaker Dominik Huber has done an awfully nice job with Dits del Terra 2016. An age-worthy red, this wine hides many subtleties and niceties, so be sure to decant it if for a long time if you want to enjoy it now.
