Red Wine Thalarn 2016
Availability: In stock
The remarkable Thalarn is a single varietal Syrah crafted by the prestigious Raül Bobet. The former chief technical director at Bodegas Torres, Mr. Bobet, one of the world's leading oenologists, currently devotes most of his time to Castell d'Encús, his personal project.
Located at an altitude of 900 metres above sea level, on the Catalan side of the Pyrenees, the 3-hectare estate is farmed according to the principles of organic and byodinamic farming.
Vinification of this Spanish red wine followed a complex and meticulous process. One part of the wine was macerated and fermented in stainless steel tanks, another part in oak vats, and the rest in open-air stone vats dating from the 12th century, hewn by the Hospitaller monks who at that time inhabited the area.
Subsequently, the wine was blended and transferred into 70% new French oak barrels, where it completed malolactic fermentation and was aged for 12 months. This wine from the DO Costers del Segre was neither filtered nor stabilized prior to its bottling.
We suggest that you decant Thalarn 2016 for at least 1 hour before you drink it.

Appearance | The red wine Thalarn has a slightly turbid, red berry colour with a violet rim. |

Nose | Over a delicately toasted background, Thalarn from the Castell d'Encús winery offers some exuberant notes of juicy red fruit, vanilla, white and rose pepper, cardamom, blue flowers and a bundle of aromatic herbs, combined with ever-present mineral and earthy undertones. |
Palate | Crafted with razor-sharp precision, this varietal Syrah from the Pyrenees is both a highly intellectual wine and a joyful and inviting one. Airy and spacious, conveying a tremendous impression of purity and a true sense of nature. Red fruit, mint, withered leaves, touches of chocolate. Perfect acidity, crunchy tannins and long, complex finish. |
Our personal opinion | Produced by Castell d'Encús, one of Spain's most intellectually sophisticated wineries, Thalarn 2016 is a high-altitude Syrah which tastes like no other. |
