Product Description

This is the new vintage of this well-known Spanish red wine from Ribera del Duero. As usual, Tionio is a single varietal Tinta Fina (aka Tempranillo).

Crafted by the Bodega Tionio winery, the grapes come from a single estate called La Asperilla. Located in the town of Peñafiel, at an altitude of 850 metres above sea level, the vines were planted in 1994 on limestone and sandy soils.

The grapes were manually harvested. Once in the cellar, they were fermented at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks with frequent pump-overs and punch-downs to maximize skin maceration.

After that, Tionio 2016 was transferred into 2nd year French oak barrels, where it was aged for 15 months before its bottling.

Aerate this Crianza red wine from Ribera del Duero 30 minutes before drinking.

Additional Information
Additional Information

The red wine Tionio has a medium-high cherry-coloured robe with a violet rim and bluish tinges.

On the nose, the crianza red wine suggests aromas of ripe red fruit, mixed with hints of caramel and sweet spices. Delicate notes of flowers and freshly ground black pepper, along with some toasted remembrances, bring to the wine a nice complexity.

A purebred Ribera, this varietal Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) of Bodega Tionio has a noble, earnest character and a boldness very much of its own. Raspberries and blackberries, notes of toffee and spices and some earthy remembrances. Ripe, powerful tannins, a good acidity that cleans the palate. Long, persistent, mouth-filling finish.

Our personal opinion

A red wine tradition-loving aficionados, Tionio 2016 has muscle, but also freshness and tension. Good ageing potential.

I certainly disagree with the Parker score of this wine. For me it is a 91-92, and in a few years it might become a 93-94 wine. Highly enjoyable.
