Produced by Bodega Tobía, the most interesting feature of Tobía Selección de Autor is its composition. The traditional Rioja blend of Tempranillo and Graciano has been added a touch of the indigenous, and recently recovered Maturana. The three varieties are planted in the three subzones of La Rioja (Alta, Baja and Alavesa).
Coming from 10 to 80-year-old plants, the grapes were harvested by hand. Destemmed and uncrushed, the wine completed alcoholic fermentation in tanks and was subsequently transferred into American and French oak barrels. There, Tobía Selección de Autor 2017 completed malolactic fermentation and was aged for 16 months.
Then this Crianza red wine was bottled unfiltered and was further aged for 6 months in the bottle.
Aerate this Spanish red wine 30 minutes before drinking.
Appearance | The wine Tobía Selección de Autor has a cherry colour with a purple and garnet rim. |
---|---|
Nose | Mild, elegant and restrained, this Crianza red wine suggests aromas of violets, blueberries and spices (cinnamon, clove and nutmeg), over a complex background of liquorice, leather and menthol. |
Palate | Inviting, fresh, pleasantly creamy. This wine by Bodega Tobía combines remembrances of liquor-infused fruit with some spicy and earthy notions, nuanced by an original touch of roasted vegetables. Mild tannins and very good acidity. Long finish. |
Our personal opinion | Year after year, Tobía Selección de Autor 2017 proves to be one of La Rioja's absolute top values. |
