Product Description
Details

This Spanish red wine is the result of the joint effort of oenologist Patrick Meagher and Bodegas Ordóñez in the Toro Designation of Origin.

Interestingly, Tritón Tinta de Toro is made from ungrafted vines planted in 1962 in several plots composed of sandy and red clay soils.

Located at an altitude of 800 metres above sea level, in order to survive the plants have to endure tough conditions: heavy winds, little rain and great differences of temperature between daytime and nighttime. Thus, yields are extremely low.

Harvested manually and selected at the vineyard, the Tinta de Toro grapes were fermented in stainless steel tanks and then transferred into French oak barrels (70% Burgundy and 30% Bordeaux). There, this varietal Tinta de Toro was aged for 8 months after the completion of malolactic fermentation.

Aerate Tritón Tinta de Toro 2017 30 minutes before drinking.

Appearance

The red wine Tritón Tinta de Toro has a bright, clean, intense, medium-high cherry-coloured robe with a garnet rim.

Nose

At first, this Toro red wine of Bodegas Ordóñez shows some smoky notes, hints of flowers and notions of red berries. As the wine opens, we smell aromas of ripe black fruit, sweet spices and some mineral undertones combined with a dash of liquorice.

Palate

Intense and bold, this Crianza red wine also reveals a gentle core which is typical of the wonderful Tinta de Toro grape. Ripe black fruit, a panoply of toasted and spicy notes, intimations of dry earth and liquorice, crunchy tannins and first-class acidity. Medium finish with some smokey and fruity remembrances.

Our personal opinion

This Tritón Tinta de Toro 2017 is, in one word, delicious. We simply love this grape variety.

Bold, but not overcooked. Very expressive, and with that depth typical Spanish wines.

Not for the faint-hearted. If you're a Californian or Aussie-style wine nut, try this one. I loved it
